✦ Synopsis

A first-order analysis of Bouguer gravity anomalies over the major sectors of Gondwana is presented here. The supercontinent-unified gravity data is produced using the Ohio State University geopotential model with a spatial resolution of 55 km. The data is analysed against the background of simplified geology of Gondwana. Major geological features, including shields, basins, and various structural discontinuities, are easily identified from the gravity anomaly pattern. The interpretation of the gravity anomalies is limited by factors such as resolution and anomalous surface topography. The limiting factor across the sectors of Gondwana lies in the difficulty of reconstruction of the continental palaeogravity field. @ 2000 Elsevier Science Limited. All rights reserved.
