โฆ Synopsis
to develop new ones. Certainly Vukonic has read and thought widely on the subject and seems capable of adding to existing models. Instead, the surest conclusion developed in the book is the argument that pilgrims are a form of tourist, whether theologians agree or not.
Conclusions
Regardless of its weaknesses, however, Tourism and Religion is worth reading by those interested in religious tourism. Besides academics considering this subject, people connected with religious sites such as religious leaders, curators, community leaders and tourism service providers also form an important market for this book. A wide-ranging review of topics relating to the connections between tourism and religion are considered. Chapters central to the theme of the text are especially thoughtful and well developed. Examples and illustrations are worthwhile. The consideration of pilgrimage from theological, sociological, economic and tourism perspectives is especially useful and insightful.
