✦ Synopsis
The total cross sections for electron scattering by chlorofluoromethane molecules (CF 4 , CCl 4 , CF 2 Cl 2 , CClF 3 and CFCl 3 ) are calculated using a modified additivity rule approach, which takes into consideration the target molecular dimension and the geometric shielding effect in a molecule. The atoms are presented by a spherical complex optical potential which is composed of static, exchange, polarization and absorption terms. The total cross sections are quantitatively compared with those attained by measurements and other theories wherever available at 30-5000 eV. Good agreement is obtained above 100 eV.
