โฆ Synopsis
Abm'act--The torsional vibrations of a rotor with a transverse crack are investigated. The crack is modelled by way of a local flexibility matrix which is calculated analytically and measured experimentally. Good agreement between the two methods is obtained. The free vibration problem is solved and the three first eigenvalues are plotted versus the crack location and depth. The finite dement method is used for the solution of any shaft system with a crack, using a modified stiffness matrix for the cracked element.

The results show that if a small crack appears, the frequency of transverse oscillation is synchronous with rotating speed ratio (O), and the frequency of swing vibration i

The dynamic behaviour of structures, in particular, that of a rotor, containing cracks is a subject of considerable current interest. Several researchers have developed models of cracked rotor systems considering mainly a single transverse surface crack. In the present study Finite Element (FEM) ana
