The effect of an imperfectly bonded laminar composite is examined in terms of the intensi$cation of the torsional stresses operative near the imperfection which is assumed to be a circular shaped area. The laminar composite is modelled by four layers of different materials with the two outer layers

โฆ Synopsis
The problem of mode III of a two-layered composite in a finite length circular cylinder containing a penny-shaped crack is considered. Using Hankel and finite sine transform, the problem is reduced to the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The expression of Ku, for small volumes of the ratio of the radius of the crack to the length of the circular cylinder is obtained by seeking an iterative solution of the integral equation. Numerical results for stress intensity factor of any ratio are shown graphically. It is worthy of note that K,,, in the paper is independent of material properties.
