โœฆ Synopsis

Tooth bending fatigue is one of the most common modes of fatigue failure in gears. It results in progressive damage to gear teeth and ultimately leads to complete failure of the gear. The characteristics of this failure mode are discussed in detail and a number of actual case studies are presented which show the occurrence of this failure mode in practice.

Surface contact fatigue is the most common cause of gear failure. It results in damage to contacting surfaces which can significantly reduce the load-carrying capacity of components, and may ultimately lead to complete failure of a gear. Three types of contact fatigue damage are discussed, and a num

Impact of tooth friction and its bending

This work studies the influences of tooth friction on parametric instabilities and dynamic response of a single-mesh gear pair. A mechanism whereby tooth friction causes gear tooth bending is shown to significantly impact the dynamic response. A dynamic translational-rotational model is developed to

The paper includes the results of experimental investigations and numerical analysis performed with the aim of studying contact fatigue damage in carburized and shot-peened gearwheels used in gearpumps. On the basis of SEM observations, a model for the evolution of the damage was developed, supposin
