Description
Recent EC legislation calls for software to be developed with the principles of software ergonomics in mind (EC 90/270). In practice this tends to mean that the software should satisfy some criteria of usability. However, at present there are no official or agreed criteria. Consequently, there is a need for some standardized technique, incorporating ergonomics knowledge, for the evaluation of software usability. Although there is a range of such techniques, many are laborious, time-consuming and require a degree of expert knowledge. However, questionnaire and checklist approaches are becoming increasingly popular as quick and easy techniques for people with minimal expertise in ergonomics, or as useful first-pass evaluation techniques for the busy practising ergonomist.
