โฆ Synopsis
The author, an environmental consultant from Victoria, Australia, sees this volume as a companion to PICKARD'S "Descriptive Physical Oceanography". He explains the physical processes that act upon beaches, reefs and estuaries, the coastal atmosphere, and the continental shelf. I n some sections nutrients, eutrophication processes and pollution are mentioned. The book predominantly concerns physical phenomena such as boundary layers and the consequences of engineering work on Heron Island along the Australian Great Barrier Reef, a particularly interesting chapter. But: On the cover i t is stated that the book describes "physical, biological and geological interactions"-the reviewer was not successful in finding detailed biological information.
