I am honored by the invitation of thc Committee in charge of this volume of the Journal of Morphology dedicated to Doctor 3lcClung to write a little introduction. I am indeed glad to be one of the first to offer congratulations on his seventieth birthday. His record bas been steadfast and consistent in devotion to the ideal of the progress of science, and he has arrived at the scriptural thrccscore years and ten without compromise or diminution of faith. Therefore his friends hope and believc that the projection and trajectory of his remaining years will complete the curve of life with grace and distinction. May these years be niaiiy and happy and useful in the circle of family, associates, former students, and others who have learned to cherish him !
The high position that he has won in the zoology of his period is as certain as it was that his 'calling and election was sure' in the years of his youth. It rests on the threefold basis
