Analysis of the proton NMR lineshape in (TMTSF)2PF 6 near the spin density wave (SDW) transition at 12.1 K shows that both the metallic and SDW phases coexist with a discontinuous jump in the order parameter at the transition. This behavior is evidence that the transition is first order.

β¦ Synopsis
We report magnetotransport data on the title compound under pressure which link the ambient pressure SDW and high-pressure field-induced states. Moreover, the transitions to both states fit the same simple semi-empirical formula using the same parameter valuesβ’ The sequence metal-semimetalsemiconductor encountered with increasing field is consistent with a scheme proposed by Yamaji.
