✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Oaxaca in southern Mexico is one of the most economically marginal states in the country, with a large portion of its population requiring social housing. This has been further exacerbated by the widespread adoption of a suburban American housing model that has led to local communities becoming socially and culturally alienated. At Tlacolula, in Oaxaca, Dellekamp Arquitectos describe how they have set out to create a housing development that engenders locality and a sense of community through a traditional barrio neighbourhood design.
