avoided by changed process parameters. In spite of these defects obviously higher critical loads are ascertained for the carburized and coated compared to only CVD TiNcoated substrates. These increased critical loads are caused by higher substrate hardness, which increases the supporting effect of the substrate.
l In further investigations the supporting effect of the substrate should be optimized by varied carbon profiles (maximum substrate carbon content, case depth). The characterization of the composite materials will be continued by measurement of residual stresses and wear tests.
