Da Titan for fuld fart og i tæt tåge skærer et andet fartøj midt over, er han den eneste om bord, der ikke vil lade sig bestikke til at tie om episoden, når de når havn. Titan s kaptajn og officerer søger derfor at bringe ham i miskredit ved at forgifte ham, så de kan påstå, han lider af delirium og derfor er et utroværdigt vidne. Omkring et døgn senere forliser Titan selv, og Rowland befinder sig alene på et isbjerg med en lille pige, datteren af hans fordums elskede, som var med om bord.
