✦ Synopsis

We have mcasurcd the radiative lil'etimcs of indwidual rotation-bibration Ic\cls of IIIC X 'xi s~atcs of Liz and 53, using a synchronously pumped dye laser and 3 time-corrclatcd photon-countins tcchniquc. In Liz we obsew _ -light vanation of lifetime with increasing term cner:y. wllilc in N+ lifelimss arc host constant \vilh 3n 3vcr3_pe s slur of 12.45 ns. The dependence of ~hc electronic tmnsition moment on intrrnuclcx distxtcc is infcrrcd from the lil, xim? data and compxcd with thcorctkl results.

The potential energy curves, dipole, quadrupole and octopole moments and dipole polarisabilities have been calculated at CASSCF level using a [ 8s6p3d] basis for the ground X 2~ + state of CO + as a function of internuclear distance. In addition the potential energy curves, as well as the dipole, qu
