✦ Synopsis
An integral
part of the book is the impressive list of problems given at the end of the chapters to aid the reader in grasping and extending the text material. The book has an extensive bibliography for those interested in consulting original papers for further work.
The material presented in Chapter 4 seems to lack completeness in that it does not include integral limitations, and that Fano's work, which ought to have received more attention, is mentioned only in passing. In the testing of positive-real functions, the use of Sturm's theorem should have been mentioned
otherwise the example on p. 38 would have the reader think that it is always easy to factorize the realpart function.
Despite these deficiencies the book is well written and profusely illustrated and would be useful to the practicing engineer interested in the design of lossless equalizers and power amplifiers using tunnel diodes and other negative resistance devices. The book is also suitable for adaptation as a one-semester graduate text.
