✦ Synopsis
The circular dichroism (CD) of the excited MLCT state of (A)-Ru(bpy):+ was determined in the region from 260 to 400 nm using time-resolved circular dichroism (TRCD) spectroscopy with multichannel spectral detection. A monosignet CD is seen for the bpy-talc* absorption centered near 370 nm. A bisignet CD is seen for the bpy XX* absorption centered near 300 nm. The positions and magnitudes of these CDs can be understood by comparing them with the CDs of (A)-Ru(bpy)$'2+'3+, The CD of the MLCT state is consistent with the description of the state as Ru( III)(bpy)z(bpy-)z', with a significant amount of coupling between the bpy and bpy-.
