✦ Synopsis
We present time-resolved Raman measurements of vibrational relaxation in a high pressure diamond anvil cell at low temperature. Pressure dependent vibrational relaxation measurements are presented for the symmetric stretch and Fermi resonant overtone modes in crystalline CS2 and for the totally symmetric C-C stretching mode of benzene. Pressure-induced changes in the picosecond coherent Raman decays are correlated with pressure-induced anharmonicities in the intermolecular potential energy function.
