β¦ Synopsis
Sirius, recently installed at KENS, is the world first time-of-flight neutron powder diffractometer with 28.5 m supermirror guide tube. It has realized both the highest resolution and intensity in Japan. Adoption of supermirror guide enables us to incorporate short-wavelength neutrons into structure analyses. This, together with the high resolution, does not only improve the accuracy of refined atomic coordinates in Rietveld refinements, but also extend a possibility of powder diffraction beyond average structure analyses.
