Abstract
It is noted that the high‐group dispersion leads to huge enhancement of the fiber optic gyroscope's sensitivity in a resonating structure, and an approach to evaluate and design resonator gyroscope with slow‐light property is proposed. And then we could adopt time interval measurement to obtain angular velocity. A high‐resolution time‐to‐digital converter implemented in a general purpose field‐programmable‐gate‐array has been introduced. Experiments show that such a novel structure would allow for several orders of magnitude sensitivity enhancement that is particularly important for fiber optic gyroscope. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
