Abstract
The correlated energy gain (CEG) is introduced to describe the timeβdomain characteristics of the UWB antenna for pulse radio systems. To improve the timeβdomain performance of the pulse UWB system, a planar gobletβlike UWB antenna is proposed. The dimensions of the antenna are optimized using the mean effective CEG (MCEG) as the cost function. Because the MCEG considers the radiating energy and the pulse shape preserving capability simultaneously, the designed antenna can achieve good timeβdomain characteristics. The designed antenna is fabricated and measured in timeβdomain. Good pulse shape fidelity is observed. Β© 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new specialized method to simulate the radiation condition of unbounded domains is developed. This method is of the so called 'local type' and it is designed for semi-discretized finite models analysed in the time domain, considering linear elastic behaviour of the exterior unbounded domain and ar
