โœฆ Synopsis

Cu-rich amalgams represent a significant change in amalgam alloy formulations which may result in enhanced performance. Significantly, these systems reduce or eliminate the y? phase. This work studied the phase changes which occurred from one hour to six months in 13 commercial amalgams by x-ray diffraction. This included 9 two-particle or blend systems and 4 single-particle systems. yz was found in all systems, but was reduced or eliminated on storage a t 37OC at rates which varied from system to system. During yz elimination, the CuGSns content correspondingly increased, indicating that solid-state reaction occurs for up to six months in some systems.

A single particle and four blended Cu-rich amalgam systems were immersed in 37 "C solutions for 1-20 months in order to determine the characterization and sequence of corrosion product formation. X-ray diffraction and SEM/EDS were used to characterize the products. The same sequence of formation occ

## Abstract The integrated peak intensities of certain reflections of the ฮณ, ฮณ~1~ and ฮณ~2~ phase of six dental amalgams at a mercury content of 45 wt% were selected and their dependence on the annealing time (1 < __t__ < 140 days) at 37ยฐC was determined. Previous studies have shown preferential corrosion of the q'(Cu-Sn) phase in highcopper dental amalgam both in vifro and in vivo, while samples of pure 7' have shown high corrosion resistance. To clarify this contradiction, samples of pure q' crystals mixed with other phases were prepared and tested
