✦ Synopsis

A number of situations which give rise to time dependent impedances have been explored experimentally for plasticized PVC membranesincontact with aqueous solutions. Most ofthe measurements can be explained by assuming that there is loss (or in some cases gain) of ions from the membranes to the contacting aqueous solutions, in such a way that electroneutrality is maintained within the membranes.

The membrane potential characteristics of a bipolar membrane are discussed in an examination of the contribution of an intermediate phase to time-dependent behavior. Bipolar membranes, which consist of a poly(sulfone) base polymer with a quaternary amino group and a poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) c
