โœฆ Synopsis

From a comparison of the temperature dependent line uidth of the electroni= Raman transition betueen the component Ievels of *E of ruby and the \iidth of the R phosphorescence transitions foliorxs that a time correlnrion must exist in the energy variation (homwaeneous broadening process) of the said Ie%eIs_ Recent!y the eIectronic Raman process between the excited states I? and 2x of optic&y pumped ruby has been studied. In particular, emphasis was placed on the intensity and polarization features of the Raman line [ 11. In the course of these experiments it was observed that the width of the 29 cm-1 Raman shift was not equal to the sum of the width of the i? and 2x Ievels. if these widths are represented by the width ofthe R1,z phosphorescence transitions which connect E and 2A with the 4A? ground state.
