✦ Synopsis

The effective inductances of current loops in cables are calculated for determining the parallel and transverse coupling losses in flat cables. It is shown that the time constants at low and high frequencies are very different. This is important for the evaluation of the time constants from measured a.c. losses, as the adopted methods -the limiting slope of losses/cycle at low frequencies and the maximum of losses/cycle -determine these different time constants, respectively.
