✦ Synopsis

A theoretical analysis is given of the changes in the two-dimensional picture observed, when a section of a three-dimensional randomly branched Ðbrous structure, such as a polysaccharide gel, is tilted. The model adopted consists of randomly orientated, interconnected straight rods having either the same length, or a deÐned distribution of lengths. The total number of Ðbrous fragments and total length of projected Ðbrous structure observed are simply multiplied by the secant of the angle of tilt, but other parameters such as the distribution function of observed fragment lengths are now given by a large number of sets of equations, which apply under di †erent conditions. Possible applications of the theory are discussed.
