β¦ Synopsis
A theoretical analysis is given of the changes in the two-dimensional picture observed, when a section of a three-dimensional randomly branched Γbrous structure, such as a polysaccharide gel, is tilted. The model adopted consists of randomly orientated, interconnected straight rods having either the same length, or a deΓned distribution of lengths. The total number of Γbrous fragments and total length of projected Γbrous structure observed are simply multiplied by the secant of the angle of tilt, but other parameters such as the distribution function of observed fragment lengths are now given by a large number of sets of equations, which apply under di β erent conditions. Possible applications of the theory are discussed.
