Abstract
Markov chain theory combined with graph theory gives a mathematical model for the description, in linear elements, of the random evolution of polymerizing macromolecular systems. Applying this mathematical model to the study of molecular distribution in linear systems of order I, i.e. systems having identical functional groups (a link being able to occur between any two sites), allows one to obtain molecular distribution functions with a general form which can be applied to many different systems. The use of matrix calculus gives simple mathematical expressions which are well suited for computer programming.
