✦ Synopsis
INTERNAL carotid thrombosis as a result of a blunt injury to head or neck is a rarity. High-speed traffic accidents and sports injuries have caused a slight increase of the incidence and this timely monograph will be welcomed by accident surgeons and neurosurgeons.
The authors base the work on 7 personal cases and on 63 cases of the literature. They deal comprehensively with the pathology, mechanism of the injury, diagnosis, and treatment.
One outstanding feature is the clinical resemblance to subdural and epidural haemorrhage; in half of the cases bur-holes had been made because of a mistaken diagnosis. The authors take great care to show how the correct diagnosis can be suspected and confirmed by angiography.
