✦ Synopsis
Random packing and pore blocking phenomena by equal-sized sphere were simulated assuming a threedimensional packing structure based on rhombohedral tetragonal ordination. Sphere movements were determined with simple rnles in accordance with contact patterns between spheres and Brownian motion. With the standard rule the ¢oid fraction was 0.37 which agrees with the value obtained with random close packing. The method was also useful for different types of packing since the void fraction varied from 0.26 to 0.97 when other rules were used. Transition mechanism from pore blocking to cake filtration was explained using sphere concentration as a parameter.
