โฆ Synopsis
A three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model of reinforced concrete structures is presented. A nonlinear elastic isotropic experimentally based model is used to describe the behaviour of concrete before cracking or crushing. The behaviour of concrete is changed from isotropic to orthotropic when the current state of stress hits an experimentally based failure surface. The softening behaviour of concrete in both cracking and crushing is implemented by decomposition of the total strain increment into a crack or crush strain increment and an intact concrete strain increment. The constitutive relationship for cracks is based on fracture mechanics and experimental data. The interaction between concrete and steel is modelled using a new linkage element. Comparison with two example reinforced concrete beams is studied to show the validity of the model.
