Various ?~acyl-&lactam derivatives were prepared on the basis of threecomponent (silyl enolates, a, fl-unsaturated thioesters, and imines) or four-component (silyl enolates, a,~-unsaturated thioesters, amines, and aldehydes) coupling reactions via Lewis acid-catalyzed tandem Michael-imino aldol reactions.
