The valence II -+ n* ewitations. x -R and j_+ x, have ken identitied. Rydberg II -4s, 4p_v and 4pz and n + x* valence excitations have been found in thio.rcetone. In thiodcetaldchydc a Rydberg-valence interaction mixes the 12.4s and n.n* states v\hich leads to a broad absorption of miwd character bctween 200 and 220 nm.
