✦ Synopsis
The gel chromatographic behaviours of six ,B-diketones and their metal complexes, particularly chromium complexes, have been investigated by thin-layer chromatography in dioxan aad benzene media at 25 f 1". The effects of several development conditions on the R, values are not marked, the systems yielding very reproducible RF values for p-diketones and their complexes. For both eluents, each p-diketone exhibits a lower RF value than its chromium complex, which suggests that the sieving effect may be a dominant factor for the chromatographic process. A plot of log (l/R, -1) vs. K,,_ obtained by a precise column method yields a straight line with a slope of unity, indicatin g that the thin-layer chromato@aphic elution proceeds under conditions very close to the precise column chromatography.
