Optical absorption studies of oxidized and Hz-reduced tetragonal and cubic zirconia films (75 < d 6 2100 nm), YSZ single crystals and TZP ceramics (50 < d < 200 pm) have been performed in order (i) to provide reliable band gap values of these commonly used fast oxygen ion conductors and (ii) to inve

β¦ Synopsis
Yttria-stabilized zirconia thin films deposited by radio-frequency sputtering from a 3 mol% Y,O,/ZrO, target show primarily tetragonal orientation. Annealing in air further reduces the fraction of monoclinic phase and enhances the crystallinity of the tetragonal phase. Films annealed at 700Β°C for 2 h showed a phase composition which was greater than 95% tetragonal.
