Carbonization of lignin and holocellulose extracted from the parent wood was carried out in the temperature range 4CWXW'C using a small scale electric furnace to compare the yields of gas, char, tar and condensed liquid. The tar yield was < I % at 700°C from the holocellulose and 4% from the wood an
