Abstract

The partially filled La~x~Ca~0.1~Co~4~Sb~12~ (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) skutterudites have been prepared by a simple melt‐annealing method followed by hot pressing. In this study, charge‐transport properties including the electrical conductivity Οƒ, the Seebeck coefficient Ξ±, the thermal conductivity ΞΊ, and the Hall coefficient were presented. La–Ca double filling can effectively improve the thermoelectric properties. The electrical conductivity increases dramatically on increasing La content, while the lattice thermal conductivity decreases substantially, leading to a large increase of the ZT value. An increased ZT value of 0.75 has been obtained for La~0.4~Ca~0.1~Co~4~Sb~12~ at 735 K.
