✦ Synopsis

Temperature dependent thermoelectric power (TEP) of high T superconductor CaBaACu 3 0 with A=Y, Yb, Er, Dy, Gd, Eu, Sm and La is studied to investigatCe the superconducting mecHanism. For A=Y and Yb, negative TEP is observed.

On the other hand, positive TEP is observed for A=La, Sm, Eu, Gd and Dy.

In all samples, however, a broad peak is exhibited at near above the superconducting transition temperature.

The atomic size of the Y and Lanthanide as well as the oxygen deficiency may be important for the observed TEP data.

Qualitative description on the general features of resistivity and TEP data are presented.

New high-temperature and nontoxic superconductor families of Ag 1-xCuxBa2Can-lCunO2n+3-y witl~ Tc = 117 K and CuBa2Can-lCunO2n+4-y with Tc =116 K were discovered. These materials were prepared by the highpressure technique. The highest Tc was obtained for n=4 i.e. Agl-xCuxBa2Ca3Cu4Oll.y (Ag-1234) an
