โœฆ Synopsis

On the basis of recent more exact values of chemical thermodynamic properties of individual substances the standard electrode potentials and equilibrium constants of various electrode and chemical reactionscarried out during the elcctrosynthesis ofperoxodisulphates were recalculated. In some cases, quite remarkable differences in comparison to the values aaording to Latimer's data have been obtained. For the first time the standard potential of the anodic discharge of Caro's acid as well as the equilibrium constant of the hydrolysis of peroxodisulphate to peroxomonosulphate ions have been evaluated.

## Abstract The kinetics of tartaric acid oxidation by peroxodisulphate ion has been studied to elucidate the mechanism of oxidation. Uncommon to many peroxodisulphate reactions it shows a variation in order. It is found to progress bimolecularly in the beginning and unimolecularly till completion.

When a reaction system described in terms of species is in a certain state, the Gibbs energy G provides the means for determining whether each reaction will go to the right or the left, and the equilibrium composition of the whole system can be calculated using G. When the pH is specified, a system
