✦ Synopsis

Electromagnetic media are modelled through linear functionals of the history of the electric and magnetic fields. Detailed thermodynamic restrictions are derived for the tensor-valued coefficients and kernels occurring in the functionals. A connection with the Kramers-Kronig relations is established and consequences are derived for the modelling of transparent media. (~) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

## Abstract The purpose of this work is the formulation and application of a continuum thermodynamic approach to the phenomenological modeling of a class of engineering materials which can be formed using strong magnetic fields. This is carried out in the framework of a thermodynamic, internal‐vari
