✦ Synopsis
pH-metric equilibrium studies were used to determine the stability constants of the copper(U) and nickel(II) complexes of histamine and 1,3diaminopropane. In the copper(Ihistamine system it was found that, in addition to the parent complexes CuA2' and CuA:+, a protonated complex CuA2H3' and mixed hydroxo complexes Cu,A,(OH)~' and CuAOH,' are also formed. The protonated complex CuA2H3' is formed in the case of a higher l&and excess at around pH = 5-6, and it is probable that one of the imidazole N atoms does not take part in the coordinate bonding. Electron excitation and ESR spectral data revealed that a certain distortion of the bonds must be reckoned with in the copper(II)histamine complex of composition CuAp, because of steric reasons, and this phenomenon increases the stability of the mixed ligand complexes.
