✦ Synopsis

The enthalpies of solution of the hydrated lithium borates Li B O 3H O and LiB O 5H O 2 4 7 2 5 8 2 . y3 in approximately 1 mol dm aqueous hydrochloric acid, as well as the enthalpies of solution . Ž . Ž . of H BO in HCl aq and of LiCl H O in aqueous hydrochloric acid q boric acid were 3 3 2 determined. With the incorporation of the standard molar enthalpies of formation ⌬ H 0 of f m . Ž . Ž . Ž . LiCl H O s , H BO s , and H O l , the standard molar enthalpies of formation of these 2 3 3 2 hydrated borates were obtained. An approach to correlate ⌬ H 0 of hydrated borates with f m 0 0 Ž . ⌬ H of corresponding cations in aqueous solution and ⌬ H H O, l was suggested from f m f m 2 the point of view of structures.
