✦ Synopsis
The thermal behavior of a solar distillation system is theoretically examined and its basic characteristics are determined. The system under investigation consists of three distinct parts: (1) an "asymmetric" type singleeffect solar distillation unit; (2) an integrated storage system; and (3) a solar thermal fiat-plate collector. Based on a mass and heat balance of the system and on instantaneous environmental and operational parameters, a general mathematical model was formulated for daily productivity of the above system based on 24-h operation. The various parameters are mathematically analyzed for day and night periods of operation. A general mathematical model for the system is presented.
