✦ Synopsis

Severd amangements are described in which one part of an oscillatory system is a jine wire heated by an electric current. Periodic cooling occurs as the wire movea through the surrounding air, ard as a result the length of the wCe changes. Uruler proper condi.%ms, the amplitude of oscillation will grow jrom an initial smal1 value, even with damping present, and wil1 ultimately reach a steady state. An analysis of the motion is presented, leacling to criteria for operation.
