โœฆ Synopsis

POLLETT-THERMALLY REVERSIBLE STRAINS 319 Conclusion

It is considered that the most suitable method for routine determinations of tin coating weights on both hot-dipped and electrolytic tinplates is the loss in weight method using Clarke's reagent. This is the only reagent of those tested which determines total coating weights on hot-dipped plates. The validity of determinations by Clarke's method, when appropriately corrected for the amounts of iron removed, has been supported by good agreement with determinations by an iodimetric procedure incorporating a convenient correction for the iodine consumption of the bascplate.

The alkaline iodate stripping reagent is also satisfactory for coating weight determinations on electrolytic tinplates. It has the advantage that there is no deposited metal to remove before weighing, but, on the other hand, it requires heating and the end of the reaction is not as sharply defined as with Clarke's reagent.

Plasticized PVC formulations for pharmaceutical packaging contain calcium and zinc stearates, which are PVC heat stabilizers. It was found in the literature that these additives can migrate to some aqueous solutions, especially when the pH is alkaline, the best example being sodium bicarbonate solut
