✦ Synopsis

The paper describes a new process to reduce the formation of fuel-NO X . The idea is to use a catalytic pretreatment before oxidation. The catalytic reactor is a simple construction, an empty winded tube made of stainless steel placed into the combustion chamber. The gas mixture leaving the gasifying and cracking reactor is nearly free of other N-containing species than N 2 . The hydrogen-rich cracking gas is oxidized with a special burner, called FLOX burner, which operates without a stabilized flame. This combination of catalytic pretreatment and flameless oxidation occurs to very low NO X emissions without using an air-staged combustion or catalytic aftertreatment of the flue gas.
