Abstract

We present results of an analysis of the thermal properties of high‐power laser bars obtained by spatially resolved thermoreflectance (TR) spectroscopy. The study of facet heating in high power laser bars is presented. The TR spectroscopy allowed for insight into degradation processes of emitters as well as the heat management of the devices.

Thermoreflectance is a modulation technique relying on periodic temperature modulation induced by pulsed current supply of the device. Information obtained in these experiments provide insight into thermal processes occurring at device facets and potentially leads to increased reliability and substantially longer lifetimes of such structures.
