β¦ Synopsis
Theperformanceof panels which cool by.means of thermalinfraredheat transferto the sky is calculatedfrom basicprinciples. The efficiency of a radiativecooling panel isdefined.Computercalculations with the fullheat transferequationsare performedfor horizontalsurfaceswith infrared-transparent covers. Plotsof efficiency versusa dimensionlesstemperature difference areshownto be insensitiveto variationsin air temperature, wind speed, andsky radiance, resultingin plots analogousto standardefficiency curvesfor solar panels.
