✦ Synopsis
The results of theoretical and experimental studies of condensed phase, homogeneous thermal explosion and ignition processes carried out by the attthor and co-workers at the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the U,S.S.R, are considered from a kinetic vicwpoinl, Differenl equations for the determination of kinetic parameters tactiv~llion energy, pre-exponenlial htctorl from experimentally determi:ed lhermal explosion and ignition characteristics are discussed. Four Iheoretically sound experimental methods fo~' studying the process characteristics are suggested: the thermographic method of thermal explosion under conditions of weak heat transfer between the reactant and ambient medium; the method of thermal explosion of fine spherical particles in heated gas; the contact method ofigni~iol; of samples by a heated metal block and ihe method of ignition of cylindrical samples by a transverse flow of heated gas, The methods change in duration from 5 × 10-2 see to 10 s see. The kinetic parameters ofdifferent substances I~etryl. cellulose nitrate, polyvinyl nitrate, barium azi'ae, elcJ obtained by these methods are given and possible extrapolation of kinetic data to other temperatures and conditions is discussed,
