In a recent experimental study of reaction rates measured in a rectangular duct with a reaction of arbitrary order occurring on one wall, the results were analyzed in terms of an infinite parallel plate duct. The subject of this paper is the determination of the requirements necessary to treat a rec

β¦ Synopsis
Almtraet--When an initially uniform liquid mixture is passed slowly between two horizontal plates maintained at different temperatures, thermal diffusion occurs and concentration differences are set up in the stream. The non-linear differential equation describing this process is derived, and has been solved numerically. An apparatus designed to test this numerical solution is described, and practical results using two aqueous solutions are given. These show good agreement with the theoretical predictions.
