✦ Synopsis


The energetics of oxygen surface complex groups bound to a carbon surface were investigated using Iin~-tem~rature pr~mrn~ thermal desorption. 'I&e rate of CO pr~uction from the decomposition of surface complex formed by the low temperature oxygen chemisorption on an activated Graphon surface indicated that at least two types of functional groups and/or sites must exist. In addition the data indicate that the desorption energies of these groups and/or sites is a function of their coverage. Mathematical modeling has also shown that those workers using the step-temperature programmed thermal desorption technique would not have energy resolution sufficient to detect &face heterogeneity.
