โฆ Synopsis
Raman scattering is used to study the thermal decomposition of photochemically produced polymeric Cso films. Under the experimental conditions, a steady state monomer population is maintained through a competition between: (a) the photoattachment of monomers to other monomers and higher oligomers (e.g. dimers, trimers) driven by the Raman laser and (b) the thermal scission of the intermolecular C-C bonds. The rate for thermal dissociation of these bonds is found to follow an Arrhenius-type behavior with an activation energy E,= 1.25 eV.

We present preliminary results on the preparation and structure of Mg 4 C 60 , a new fulleride polymer. A series of Mg x C 60 compositions (0 , x , 6) were prepared by solid state reaction. While most samples were multiphase, a single phase material was obtained at the nominal composition Mg 4 C 60
